==Research==

1966-1968 - Visiting lecturer at the Polytechnical Institute of Conakry (Guinea).
Prof Shvartsev is a world’s widely-known scientist, an expert in hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry and geochemical techniques of prospecting mineral deposits. He has developed the world’s first theory and hydrogeochemical technique to explore ore minerals in a permafrost zone, established a new scientific direction in the field of the water-rock interaction and developed the modern concept for the formation groundwater composition. The scientific school was supported by a grant of the President of the Russian Federation. He has implemented different theoretical developments on the water cycle in the Earth’s crust, its synthesis and chemical degradation, a geochemical cycle in the Earth’s crust, forming string brines and groundwater composition.

1980 - Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences.
Joint research projects were carried out with Paul Sabatier University (Toulouse, France); BRGM, the French geological survey (Orleans); the Museum of Natural History (Brussels), three Chinese universities, the University of Kent (USA).

1980-1990 - Dean of the Faculty of Geological Survey.
==Honors and Recognition==

1982 - Professor at TPI.
Saverenskiy Russian Academy of Sciences Award (2007)
1994 - Head of Tomsk division of The United Institute of Geology, Geophysics and Mineralogy.

1997 - present - Director of Tomsk Branch of the Institute of Oil and Gas Geology SB RAS.

Stepan Shvartsev developed the theory and practice of application of hydrogeochemical technique to search for ore mineral resources fields in permafrost zone, as well as a new scientific direction in the field of water-rock interaction. He elaborated the modern concept of ground water structure formation. The recent years Shvartsev has been intensively developing a new scientific field «Geological evolution and self-organization of the water–rock system».
